A federal judge has dismissed the claims from one of six plaintiffs in a lawsuit alleging that the Farmington Hills-based credit division of DaimlerChrysler AG, which finances vehicles, discriminated against customers in Chicago because of their race. DaimlerChrysler Services North America LLC, which does business under names such as Chrysler Financial and Mercedes-Benz Credit, had asked the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois to dismiss all of the charges. But the recent ruling by U.S. District Judge Mark Filip allows the case, which seeks class-action status, to proceed with five plaintiffs. Both sides said they were pleased by the ruling. "We're very encouraged to win five out of six," said Chris O'Hara, an attorney for the plaintiffs. DaimlerChrysler spokesman James Ryan said, "We're certainly pleased one plaintiff has been dismissed." Former Chicago-area dealer Gerald Gorman and some of his minority customers filed separate lawsuits against DaimlerChrysler in February 2003. The suits alleged that Chicago-area DaimlerChrysler executives wouldn't give loans or fair interest rates to customers at Gorman's dealerships. DaimlerChrysler has said it does not tolerate racism or discrimination. The company's court filings in the Chicago case further maintain that even, if racist remarks were made by its employees, they had nothing to do with how customers were ultimately treated. Filip said he was dismissing the allegations made by just one plaintiff, Elaine Sims, because she did not provide adequate evidence that a credit application was submitted on her behalf to Chrysler by the car dealership. Sims said she purchased a Chrysler 300M from Gorman's dealership in November 2001 and that Chrysler Financial improperly rejected her application by phone. "Chrysler cannot have improperly handled Ms. Sims' credit application if no application was submitted to it," Filip concluded.

Most dealing with car dealerships not offering loans/types of cars to certian races of people. You could use all the information in your paper as long as you give them credit (reference them).
