well the only way you can get it if you know somebody that can order it from a MB dealer
They even make fake ones i've heard from a friend in singapore, i guess ultimately came from indonesia

Can't anyone (including people who do not have a MB car) just walk into a MB stealership and order one from their Parts Department???
Do they ask for a VIN?

Anybody can walk into the parts department and buy parts. You don't even have to own a mercedes to buy the side mirrors with the blinkers (though why would you if you didn't have one? LOL). You probably wont get the best price as markup over cost is around 100%, so knowing someone that can get them for you at cost is the best way to do it. Maybe that's what he meant. ;0)
