2010 ML350 GAS 4Matic
FS: '03 CLK 500 - Northern VA / DC Area

2003 CLK 500
13k miles
Brilliant Silver
Charcoal interior
Lighting package (Bi-Xenon / washers)
Sunroof Package / Power rear sunshade
COMMAND navigation
Factory CD Changer
Heated Front seats
CLK55 Rear Spoiler

Purchased slightly used in December of '02 for $59k
Starmark Certified warranty good for 5 yrs, 100k miles

I'm selling to purchase a new C6 Corvette. I've enjoyed the Benz but having owned 4 Corvettes in the past, that's where my heart is !

Kelley Blue Book Private Party value: $45,240

I will sell for $44,000 firm.

I've already been offered $43k as a trade-in from a local dealer. I'm offering here for $1k over that trade-in deal, hoping to make an extra $1k and to offer people here the chance to get a very nice CLK for a lot less than a dealer will sell it for. You can bet that if I trade it in for $43k, they will put it on their lot for somewhere around $50k.

Kelley Blue Book Retail Value is: $51,470

Thanks,

But if you trade it in on a corvette then (if its like Illinois) you would only have to pay sales tax on the difference between 43k and whatever the Vette costs.

Hmmm... Interesting. I had a mock write-up of a deal with Koons Chevrolet on a 2004 Corvette. The sales tax they quoted me was calculated using the full price of the new Corvette (minus the dealer's discount and factory rebate).

I'll have to do some checking on the sale tax issue. I can't recall ever paying sales tax on only the difference between my trade and the new car I was purchasing.

Also note that my intention is to purchase a 6th Generation Corvette which won't be available until later this year. I primarily went throught the sales process on the 2004 Corvette to see what they'd offer me. If the deal would've been a little better, I may have traded for the '04 Vette and waited until '05 to purhcase the C6 Corvette.

I'm interested in selling my CLK now to avoid further depreciation and to bank the money for several months.

Did some quick checking on the Virginia DMV site and it is as I expected - that tax credit deal does not apply to Virginia:

"For the purposes of the Motor Vehicle Sales and Use Tax collection, gross sales price includes the dealer processing fee and any reduction in the price shown on the invoice for a manufacturer's discount or dealer's price discount. Credit given by the dealer for a trade-in, rebate, unpaid lien or other unpaid claim against the vehicle is not included when determining gross sales price for the collection of sales and use tax."

You guys in Illinois are lucky ! We also pay property tax on our vehicles EVERY year, based on their value.

NY & WV

NY gives credit for the trade in so you only pay sales tax on the net amount. In WV we had to pay property tax on all personal property (vehicles, boats and animals) you owned as of July 1.

For dogs, you have/had to declare a value to pay tax on. If someone killed your dog, you could only colect the value you had declared. If you didn't declare a value, you could not collect any $$ if they killed your dog negligently.

No problem Nebraska.

Here in the Northern Virginia / Washington DC area, if they could tax the air we breathe, they would !

We pay 3% sales tax on the full price
Luxury tax on the high $$ vehicles
Annual Property Tax based on the market value
Annual safety inspections
Semi-annual Emissions tests
Premium insurance rates
Hideous looking front license plates are required
Radar detectors are illegal
Local police are ticket-happy and an insane number of roads are 25 MPH

Sometimes owning a nice, fast vehicle is quite painful !

Unfortunately, I don't have any "Good" pictures to upload. But I just took some fairly awful-looking pics in my garage. It's too dark to take pictures outside right now. I'll take better pictures tomorrow if you like.

I purchased the wheels from the dealer. They are "appearance package wheels". They are the same size as the AMG-style wheels. I just preferred the look of these.

Sorry - Car is Sold. The local Chevrolet Dealer, Koons in Tyson's corner was very hungry for a sale and ended up giving me $44,000 for my car AFTER discounting the price of an '04 Corvette by $8,500.

I couldn't pass up a deal like that. End of the month works wonders sometimes. That changed delayed my plans for a C6 Corvette for a year while they work out the bugs.

Thanks for all the help and comments on this forum.
