Hi all,
Just a few words of advice for those selling & buying. I am new to the forum and thus far have been happy with the info. & comradery of the members. I have been selling some items both on the forum, auctions & on other classified sites. I recently was exposed to a new scam that is very prevalent with internet transactions & just wanted to share the info. The scam has been with cashiers checks. Check out this link:

so the next time you run into this situation you will be prepared.
I am not assuming that anyone is stupid or naive on this forum, but I personally did not know & was fortunate enough not to have gotten scammed myself. Just wanted to share the info.
Peace
G

FWIW, I'm also amazed by the credibility people give to bank or cashier's checks, often treating them "like cash." These checks can be cancelled essentially like any other check (there are some extra forms to fill out, which may include an oath that the check has been lost, but that won't stop an unscrupulous person).
HAHAHAHAHA, someone tried to pull one of these scams on me for some rims I was selling sent me 5500 instead of 600 and told me to send him the rest. Banks have a policy where if the check doesn't clear within ten business days you get the money and you get to keep it. Guess what? I just made 5 grand towards my education

Newbie
I had this guy claiming that he was a car finder for the Prince of Nigeria, or something. He tried the same scam.
He offered 50K for my 1991 BMW 850i, and said that he would give me a check for 70K, and all I had to do was send back 20K. He said that once he got the 20K back, he would hire a shipper.
I told him I'd love to do the deal, and that as soon as I cleared the check with the local FBI office, he could hire a shipping company.
Needless to say, I didn't hear from him again.

MBWorld Fanatic!
Also be wary of escrow companies. Many fraudsters refer you to fake escrow companies.
