S/A just forwarded this NetStar info along with the VIN (decoder results seem unavailable to me at this point)

ZVPD · 2024-09-25 · DISY: Vehicle at Port of Departure

Unsure of the codes though it seems that the next step will be the ship assignment. No word yet on the new MY25 MSRP - not expecting any big surprise.

Haven't started on squaring away the garage yet. That, and reading the CLE53 Owners Manual downloaded awhile back. Might get going on both sometime soon.

Thanks for the manual link.

I think you have code meaning already. Z is the leading digit on all of the codes and VPD stands for Vehicle at Port of Departure. I suspect the next code will be ZPSA: at Port-Ship Assigned.

Today's news

The upcoming port strike on the East Coast of the USA, set to begin at midnight as the current contract expires, will significantly impact the unloading of car carrier ships among other cargo operations. Approximately 36 ports from Maine to Texas, covering the East Coast and Gulf Coast, are expected to be affected. This includes major auto ports like Baltimore and Brunswick, Georgia, which handle a significant portion of car imports.

😕

Let's hope they call it off.

I was worried about the strike delaying my delivery. I got lucky. Everything from the ship, the port , to the VPC and car transport was on schedule and the car arrived at the dealership today. Picking it up this afternoon.

My local Washington DC News is reporting that the strike may be short, a week or so. Let’s hope they are correct.

Looks like 62% was enough to avert the dockworkers strike for now. Hard to imagine the Administration letting it continue into the last weeks of this election.

From the WSJ

"The new offer, up from an earlier proposed raise of 50%, came after the White House privately and publicly pressed the large shipping lines and cargo terminal operators who employ the longshore workers to make a new offer to the union."

I sure hope so. My ship is still docked in Baltimore. I’ve been watching the shipping traffic and looks like some car carriers are starting to move south. One that was heading to Baltimore is now officially heading to Mexico.

No news yet on a ship assignment for my AMG that's sitting on the dock in Bremerhaven. Figured they might have been waiting on the strike resolution. There could be another problem though - Hurricane Kirk working its way into the North Atlantic.

That last yellow marker on the projected track is midday Monday as a Cat 1 (90 mph winds). Not sure if or how it will effect the shipping lanes - a reminder of 2014 and Hurricane Gonzalo as referenced in my earlier story.

It's always something

😎

The strike is paused to allow further negotiations. Workers return tomorrow! Hopefully, my car is unloaded tomorrow. 🥳

It's on dry land. Now, I need to wait for the VPC to install the wheel locks and send it on it's way.

Looks like the RoRo Vessel carrying my CLE 53 set sail eight days ago, just before the dockworkers strike was settled.

Departed Bremerhaven on 09.30.24 and headed straight for the Panama Canal, completely missing the usual drop-offs on the East Coast. Surprised really, though I could venture a guess as to why.

Once through the locks it's northward bound along Pacific Coast to Port Hueneme and MBZ's VPC for a speedy 10.25.24 scheduled arrival date.

Zoom 😎

Looks like you’re got the west coast express. I wonder if they put any east coast cars on your ship.

A good question.

Seems that shipments in general to the East Coast have been diverted in advance of the ILA strike, Found this post dated on day three (no specific mention of vehicle cargo).

"Dockworkers on the East and West Coasts are represented by two different unions. So while East Coast workers are walking the picket line, West Coast workers are handling diverted cargo so you can still get that vacuum cleaner you ordered online.

And it’s not like a switch flipped when the strike started.

“That increase has been coming at us for some time prior to the actual strike,” saidLeal Sundet, the secretary treasurer of the International Longshore and Warehouse Union local representing workers in Portland. He says shipping companies had already been diverting cargo just in case of a strike. That started a couple months ago.

“They bring the cargo on the West Coast and then they rail it to the East Coast,” he said."

Without knowing the current West Coast market and logistics involved in truck and rail transport (emphasis on time and cost), it could be a possibility. Deliveries to States well inland might swing the East-vs-West port decision process. idk

Wondering if you've taken delivery Dunderhi - if not it's certainly imminent. Curious to know if your dealership has provided you with the MY25 MSRP figures - they'll surely have to on delivery. Haven't asked my S/A yet - not expecting a big swing here from the MY24 numbers. 🤞

Interesting info. I wonder if West Coast post with automation will become preferred.

As far as my car, I got a note yesterday stating it was in final checkout. Once it gets released to the carrier the dealer will have a delivery date. No price info yet. I hope that aren’t thinking about a last minute market adjustment. My previous dealer tried adding $10k to my ordered G-Wagen at the last minute. I told them that I would make it my solemn duty to torch them online at every opportunity. They backed down.

On the CLE 53 AMG thread Pippen99 spoke of the conversation with his dealer: "He estimated delivery from today to be 2.5-3 months. He also confirmed the 2025 base price to be $74,300. An increase of $1500."

Dunderhi

Have you taken delivery ?? It seems about time. Inquiring minds and all that.

The Apollon Leader RoRo carrying my AMG sailed through the Panama Canal three days ago - now headed non-stop to Port Hueneme just north of Los Angeles. The coupe should be unloaded and trucked to MBZ VPC L.A. in just over a week from now. When ready, back on a truck heading north for Silicon Valley and my garage. Better get up to speed on that Owners Manual I suppose.

And thanks Jack L for your heads-up post today - MBUSA now has the MY25 configurator and pricing online. Nailed it on the $74,300 base MSRP.

Now researching deals on MBZ extended warranty and maintenance plans (ELW / PPM) prior to delivery. Jury still out on the Wheel/Tire plan. Will post my findings.
