Upcharge for Engine Sound in ‘25 models

I’m curious why the 2024 CLE 53 came with the Variable Engine Sound (Code 339) as standard equipment, but for the 2025 model, it’s now an optional feature priced at $550 USD. What prompted Mercedes-Benz to take this route? On the surface, it seems like an easy $550 profit straight into MB’s pockets—but has this feature been improved or changed in the 2025 models to justify the added cost?

Just the continuation of Mercedes insulting the intelligence of people loyal to the brand prior to 2020 or people born before 1980.

The reason they have done this is due to peoples willingness in continuing to pay for such toys. Vote with your dollar. Similar to fake exhausts and 4 cylinder weaksauce, some of these terrible choices are biting Mercedes where it counts and they are having to listen. Dont spend for the Star, spend for the full package.

Similar to a drug dealer that gives you the first fix for free, Mercedes is now charging for things that nobody ever dreamed would be an uncharge in modern times. Dont be surprised when the auto roll up windows and air conditioning are listed as upgrades with a subscription....want it colder because your Florida car didn't come with "tropical" ac enabled, pay by the degree with the chip in your wrist. What seatbelt package would you like, safe, safer, or vegetable? Vegetable is standard but daily rental of the driver only seatbelt is just 10 dollars per drive and insurance requires it if driving in human mode.

And in the theme of a fun 1980s commercial. "you alright, they are learned to charge by watching you"

I think its important to share these absurdities so that current and future buyers know what they are signing up for and Mercedes (or any brand) will suffer the consequence even greater than they have the last few years.

Interestingly, I saw early build 2024 CLE 53’s on the dealer lot with the $550 charge for 339-AMG Real Performance Sound on the window sticker. It was standard on my August 2024 build.
