When should OEM shocks be replaced ?
my year 2000 CLK430 is currently at 38,000 miles,
just wondering if its time I should have the stock shocks replaced ??

My right rear suspesnion is squeeking. Not sure what it is, but it sounds like there is a mouse in there.
I talked to the Midas people and they said stock shocks usually last for about 80K miles on the average car. Ours aren't average, so I don't know. But you will know when they go out. If fluid is leaking or the car get's very bouncy, chances are one or more of your shocks are gone.

Factory shocks usually start wearing near the 50k mile mark. These are low pressure hydraulic shocks, and don't simply go from good to bad overnight. The oils inside break down over time and fail to provide the shear resistance that newer fresher oils can provide. This results in a slow deterioration of the ride.
