adding an amp and sub...(more)
i want to add an amp and sub in my trunk....i was curious to see how the speed senstive volume control of the bose system would work for a separate sub? would the volume of the sub go up and down on the subwoofer as well, or is it impossible to add an amp and sub to the existing bose system? Thanks

I believe there's only one fiber optic amp that will work for that application, but you should talk to a reputable shop about it.
My friend's shop apparently installed a 12" sub in a CLK430 Cabrio quite successfully, but the components are $$$ I believe.
Most people who want to upgrade just tear the whole system out.

if you can deal with a solution that is less than "optimal"... you can jump off the rear speaker signal cables and send them into a standard amp with the right type of amp connections... it is not the best way to do it, but it will work.. and yes, this will make the sub operate with the speed-sensitive stuff.

I have added two 10 inch JL audio subs, all JL audio component speakers and two JL audio amps. They all work with the factory head unit and all adjust to the speed sensitive aspect of the radio. Personally I really hate dealing with electronics so I didnt investigate too much on how my stereo shop installed my system. If you want I can make a call.

Anyone who wants their speed sensitive radio option turned off can go to their MBZ dealer and a tech can disable the feature.

Barflux is correct (although I havent checked for 2002CLK) - the Bose Digital AMP (which connects on the same fibre optic D2B ring as CD, Phone, Teleaid, VCS) is in the S, CL and the 2002ML - the CLK has the BOSE analog amp which just sits on the speaker outputs of the COMAND/Audio-30 - although there is also some configuration on the head-unit that is done - so maybee the output voltages arent the same as for the speakers in "Bose" mode.
