It depends what interests you....
if you are a "car guy", don't miss Stuttgart. Stay at the Graf Zeppelin hotel (directly across the main train station, 1 ride from the airport) and book yourself for:
1) MB Factory Tour & Museum
2) Tour of the AMG Facilities
3) Porsche Factory Tour & Museum
You will also enjoy the shopping at "Kronigstrasse" where all the nice shops are. Have fun and good luck.
For BMW, take a train ride to Munich.

it is required of you that you thrash your rental car around The North Loop (aka der Nordschleife)
its like 4-bucks a lap.... but its 17 miles each lap!
