This has happened to me, Thanks for the followup results.
My interior is black and was considering a fix with alcentera simulated leather with a soft note.
Perhaps swabbing and scraping the foam off prior to gluing would help.
PS: What chem did you use to remove the glue/foam? I am thinking solvent goof off. Hmmm!

I used a plastic scrapper first to get the foam crud off. I tried goof off and goo gone to get the remaining black sludge off, but neither worked. Acetone worked, but it was still slow going. There's probably something better out there to get that nasty stuff off.
You would definitely need to get it off prior to gluing, or it won't last, as I found out.
