Fault at start up
Hi guys, recently when i put the electronic key into the ignition and turn it to start my 208 CLK320 the car attempts to start then cuts off. If i keep the key turned it re tries by itself then starts no proble. Removing the key and re trying also fixes this. Once the car is started ist fine. Any ideas. Is it the key which is faulty. I think it might be this because the memory function for the remote window closure doesnt always work. Any thoughts / experiences.

Not sure if this is it, but I just described this in another thread. It has happened to me twice in 3 years. When I first try to start the car, you can hear it engage, try to turn over briefly, then stop. If you turn off the key and turn it on again, it always starts right up. Mine turned out to be the starter simply needing lube on the shaft that extends out to engage the flywheel upon start up. I garage my CLK's during the winter, so this typically happens when I drive them for the first time each year. It only happens on the 430. My mechanic simply lubes it and it is fine...costs about $60 because you have to physically remove the starter to properly lube the shaft. Which also means you will have to reset radio, windows etc. There is a TSB out on this and simply took it to my mechanic. Problem solved.

Just go there and you can see all the TSB's for the 208 CLK.
