ECU Upgrade and Headers - How much should I be paying?

I spoke to a place here in NYC and they wanted to sell me Kleeman Headers ($4800) with install for about 5.5/6 grand and the ECU upgrade, kleeman also, for about 700... I am just wondering if these guys are asking for premium rates or is this the going rate?

If anyone in the tristate area would like to start a group buy for Kleeman exhausts or even the ECU upgrade - PM me... thanx

That's a stupid amount of money for 10 or so horses. Besides, Kleemann headers are less than half that price. Why would you want to waste that much money when for an a little bit more you can get a supercharger on your car and REALLY make power?

Do the math - over 7 grand for no more than 20 extra rwhp

OR

8k-9k for a Supercharger setup from www.hopracing.com that will get you about 150 additional ponies to the rear wheels...

With headers you probably wont ever feel the hp increase until above 4K rpms or so, and in the lower rpms, you might loose torque, not worth it IMHO...

i had a feeling that was the shop. they do do very good work and are very professional but their prices are out there. i think they cater to the driver who doesnt really do any homework and who doesnt shop around when wanting to throw a kleemann supercharger on their e55 or an imola kit on their ferrari. im not bashing them beacuse i have seen their work and it is top notch just on the expensive side.

I use them for all of my dyno testing/performance upgrades and will be getting a supercharger kit from them next month. I don't work for the company, I'm just happy with the shop and their work.

Also, I tend to be a loudmouth and like to alert my fellow Mercedes owners that there is a viable performance option in addition to Kleemann.

Hello wnycec,
I'm not sure who you spoke to here at RPM, but that price does not sound correct. We do NOT quote over retail - all of our pricing is at retail (for Kleemann), we do not make up numbers. I don't mean to start an argument but this bothers me because we are one of the few shops in the tri-state area who do not create invoices according to how much money we believe someone has. We are always fair with our customers. Our labor rate may be higher than someone else’s and I am not arguing that, we believe it to be reasonable for the services provided. Again, I'm not here to start any problems. However, as a sponsor of this site and part of a very stand-up business organization I take offense to someone claiming that we are quoting over retail and want to be sure that this problem is addressed. I do not doubt your claim - it is possible that someone other than myself may have misquoted you. I just want to make sure that the issue is handled properly. As far as Kleemann pricing, I do not dictate that, I go strictly by a pricing structure provided by Kleemann USA. I would ask that you please call RPM and ask for me (Erik) and then we can go over pricing. We work EXTREMELY hard to keep our clients happy and I do not want a rumor to be spread that we are trying to hit people over-retail for parts, that will not happen here. I hope you understand my concern and again, I hope you will take a minute to give me a call so we can discuss this. Thank you.
