CLK Maintenance Cost Question : Does this sound right?

I just took in my CLK for its 75,000 mile Service B this morning and this is what I am being told needs to get done.

Service B : $490
New Fuel Filter : $230
Brake fluid flush : $100+
Coolant flush : $100+
New rotors / pads : $560
Transmission service : $370 (I opted to wait until 90K+ for this)
New Tires : $750 (I opted to buy these on my own)
-------------------------
Total to pay: $1500+

Does the cost sound right just for these maintenance items? I've never had a bill like this in all the time I've owned this car (and my old C class)

I'm scared to see what happens if anything actually goes wrong.

(Additional items, covered under Starmark)
New motor mounts
New coil wires

I just bought a fuel filter for 50 bucks! Installed should not cost 230!
I bought new pads for 80 bucks from the dealership - u could get them cheaper elsewhere
I just bought new rotors off ebay for 140 including shipping - brembo cross drilled rotors

If you look at the owner's manual - the b service consists of a lot of "checks"
They check for leaks, check the tires/tread, check the signals/lights/foglights etc... its a lot of crap if you ask me... They should change your air filter also... I paid $140 for 2 K&N filters which are reusuable... who knows what they charge you for stock filters...

Scary expense to think about...

but it sounds in line with other MBZ dealers. I've got an '01 E and the service advisor estimated $1K for my B service, and that would be without pads and rotors referenced in your quote, so it sounds pretty close.

If you're mechanically handy you can do the pads/rotors yourself, discount their parts markup and labor and it's much less than that. Find out which rotors and pads they were going to swap; that sounds too cheap. My brake quote (at my last A service) was $975 for front/rear pads and only rear rotors -- heavy labor charges as the parts (for my job) were less than $200 at a regular discount (i.e., not retail dealer prices).

Lastly, if it won't void the remainder of your warranty, look for a good independent, it will probably cost you less than half that.

Good luck, and enjoy the ride,
Greg

Just got off the phone with a highly regarded independent Mercedes garage in Vienna, VA (Silver Star Motors).

B-Service = $440 ($50 cheaper)
Fuel filter = $120 ($110 cheaper)
Brake flush = $40 ($60 cheaper)
Coolant flush = $40 ($60 cheaper)
Rotors / pads = ~$500 ($60 cheaper)
----------------------
Difference = ~$340

Just told the dealership to hold off on non-warranty work.. I want to give these guys a try.

I think everybody should learn basic automotive maintenance growing up. My car right now is pretty cheap to work on but I'm so glad my dad taught me the basics of changing oil, brakes, etc. It saves so much money being able to do basic things like that yourself.
