2000 CLK 430
Evosport Under-Drive Pulley Kit
Would this be worthwhile for a Stock 430 engine? What are the cons?
I don't have any mods (CLK55 Airbox on the way) but I would like to start tuning my mercedes into the beast it could be...
I see I could purchase a pulley kit for "the serious audiophile"... I do have an 8 inch box in the back along with a 5 channel amp and capacitor... Would I be better off with that kit or could I just spring for "the performance minded individual" kit.

Hey wnycec, where did you get your CLK55 airbox?
If I were you I would ask the company what they would consider serious, they might say you are considering you have a cap.

Pulleys won't really make much difference on a 430 engine as they were designed and dyno tested on a 55 motor.
If anyone disagrees with me, please feel free to post your before and after dyno graphs.

Josh: Underdrive Pulleys (UD) have nothing to with engine size. UDs simply reduce the load accessories place on the engine. Since all 3-valve MB engines (240, 320, 430, 500, 55) share the same accessories - the gains are more or less the same.
Most of the gains will be in the first three gears, since this is where acceleration is at it's highest.
Graph below perfectly illustrates this. It is E320 station wagon.

yea i called up evosport a while ago and whoever i spoke with said the gains would be smaller on a 320 than 430. the website said "up to 13hp" at the time - he said those figures were for a 430 and that i should expect more around 9hp

Josh: Did you do an acceleration run like dyno graph below? Or did you just dynoed in 4th gear. As you can see, there are no gains in the 4th.
Bagher: No - accesories still function as stock. No overheating, stereo still works, if anything steering is a touch firmer.

I didnt feel too much of a difference, but it did feel a little different. The big thing with this mod is that it doesnt have any other aspects about it that let you know its there. No sound like an exhaust or intake, and not enough power like a supercharger or turbo to get noticed by itself, there's also very little asthetic improvement. Intakes and exhausts give about the same power advantage, but the sound makes it seem like you're going alot faster. I think the mod was worth it, but its not going to blow you away or anything.
