Side Airbag Deployed For No Reason

While driving back from work, my driver side airbag abruptly deploy while I was on the freeway. Now I got a big freaking bruise on my left arm and deployed side airbag, which really looks really ghetto after attempting to stuff it back in-between the torn leather seams. Has anyone of you ever heard of such a thing happening to anyone? Does anyone have any idea how much it's going to cost to repair and replace it? Needless to say, I'm a little pissed. I appreciate any helpful information, thanks.

Did you hit a pothole on the freeway? I remember watching the news there was a BMW guy ran over a big pothole and both front airbags deployed and his BMW just shut itself down. He had to turn the ignition on again and crawled to the shoulder of the freeway.

...and the NTSB. It helps them track this stuff to force manufacturers to start recalls and generally improve the product.

On what grounds? What were the damages (other than the airbag and trim) to the plaintiff?

Only an ambulance chaser would take a case like this but doubtful you'd find a judge that would hear it. Bruising? Hmm...if 6 broken ribs and a one week stay in the hospital are worth $40,000, what is a measily bruise worth? $4? The former number is actual damages awarded when my mom's airbag (2000 E430) went off when she hit a parking bumper doing about 10MPH 5 years ago.

Point is, this is America and you can sue for anything but don't encourage abuse of the system with BS like this. Ever wonder why our insurance rates are so high?
