Timeport Phone
At least one person has indicated that the software on the Timeport they give you is different than the standard phone. That begs the question of whether the software can be obtained from another source to update another phone with the same hardware as the Timeport.
Any answers will be appreciated!
Thanks.
You must also specify the carrier (i.e. SprintPCS, Verizon, or At&T) at the time when you pick up the phone. They are not interchangeable between wireless carriers.
Of note, MB is replacing the Timeport with Motorola V.60c phone which is a newer phone with more functions and aluminum casing. You might want to let your salesperson know that you want to wait for that phone if possible.
As for the Timeport, what happens if you put a non-MB phone on the cradle? Can you at least utilize the speakerphone? Or is it totally inoperable?
Thanks!
You are correct though in that a new cradle and cable is needed for the Motorola V.60c. (I think the V.60c uses a USB cable)
However, I don't have the exact release date for the phones, but I vaguely remember that it will come out for the later 2002 models. Your salesperson should have more accurate information.
I have heard that some people are trying to delay the pick up of their phone so that they can get the V.60c. You might want to check with your Salesperson to see if you can delay the pickup of the phone since it can easly be installed later by your local dealer.
Check to see if you can have them not install the phone at U.S. port and give you instead an installation order for the phone so that you can return to have the dealer install it when it is released.
The is a person with username "Adam" in the S-class forum who is working on a group order for V.60c phones for those of us who are stuck with the old Timeport. He has more up-to-date information on the release date. You might want to post this question in the S-Class forum.

All 2001 and newer model years will be able to use the V60c.
If you already have a Timeport in your 2001+ vehicle , a retrofit kit will be available, however, it will not come cheap.
I would have your dealer hold up on the install of the Timeport and wait a few weeks for the V60c's to come out. I have spoken to more than a few people who took delivery of their vehicles in the past few months that have dont just that. Their dealers promised to install the V60c upon its introduction.
I have also looked into a "Group Buy" of the new V60c including full install kits and Voice Recognition modules. I will not be able to get any futher information until December. That is how I know about this topic ...
If you try using a regular TimePort it will work for about 1 minute and then turns off. This is a function built into the phone to ensure that MBZ wouldn't loose revenue from people purchasing regular TimePort phones and using it in their cars.
