oil change problem
Hello All,
I just finished changing the oil in my 2002 clk430 and I didn't do enough research on the type and weight of oil that should be used. I used mobil 1 5w30 and read that it is not on the list of approved oil's. Do you think this is going to be a serious issue even though I change it every 5000 miles? Should I run out and get 0w40 as reccommended? And advise would be helpful.

I think it is better for you to follow the spec., if I were you, I would drain the 5W-30 and change it back to 0W-40.
0W-40 can go down to lower temp. than 5W-30 but now it is summer and I am not sure if the difference between the two is huge or not.

Don't bother with the dealer. They are clueless. The oils are vastly different in their makeup but under normal conditions they will both provide excellent service for your engine. Even though the 5w30 is not MB 229.3 or 229.5 certified, you should have no problem getting 5000 miles out of it. If you are curious, go to the dealer and look at the oil they put in. Most likely, it is Pennzoil or some other less expensive oil. Smythe and Beschoff in San Jose both use Pennzoil as their "house" brand. You have to ask for Mobil 1 and sometimes pay more for it.
