Would an SLK transmission work?

Just a thought...but would it be possible to use a 6 speed transmission from a 2003 SLK320 in a CLK320? Would the job be as easy or only a little bit harder than a regular transmission replacement job? Or would it take a ton of work to get everything fitted properly?

i always wondered the same thing. The trans will definately fit, but you will have issues with geting the hydralic clutch system installed, not sure if there is a pre traced cutout in the firewall for that, and a linkage for the trans, and computer programming since the ecu also controls your tranny. I think the driveshaft also must be changed to mate to the rear diff.

I wonder tho...

you should be able to do it at least with a 320 (as far as software goes) because there is an SLK320 and you could borrow its ECU and Tranny control module, and, at least in theory they are the same engines. It might be more difficult with a V8

Im sure it could be done, but it would be on par with an engine swap as far as difficulty goes

does anyone knowhow involved it is to put a 430 engine in the 320? From waht i hear, the ecu programming is teh hardest part.

It basically comes down to the fact that selling your 320 and buing a 430 (or in this case a 55 even) will be MUCH cheaper than doing the engine transplant. You'd have to get all new engine accessories, computers, and do some work on the transmission i think (i dont think 320s and 430s have the same transmission, i might be wrong tho). Basically engine transplants are only really worth it if you're putting in an engine not available in another version of the car you own, for example there's a guy on these boards with a C55, an old C class with a 55 engine in it. Thats the kind of one-off stuff that engine transplants really pay off in. If i were doing a transplant on my car i would want to get a 500 engine or maybe the new 6.3 AMG (this is assuming i have tons of cash to do the job with because you pretty much have to). I dont even want to think about waht the 6.3 would require in terms of a transmission job tho.
