New Windshield Needed... How much to expect???

Ok... so, i skipped work today... went to the gym in the morning, ran some errands, and headed to the golf course afterwards...

on the way to the golfcourse, a pebble hits my windshield, but, I think nothing of it as ***** like this happens all the time... I don't notice anything..

Go golf, and get back to my car after 5hrs, and there is a large spider crack that runs about 12-16", running diagonally across the driver side... all of a sudden, the round of golf is so much more enpensive...

Obviously, I will need to change out the windshield... Question is, HOW MUCH is this going to cost me??? I'm in the LA area...

Any help is appreciated...

That sucks man... That just happened to me

You have 2 options..

A PPG windshield with the Mercedes Star. S Class 900.00 installed

A PPG windshield with out the Mercedes Star. S Class 500.00 installed

It should be cheaper for your clk I would think ?

I can give my contact but he is in the OC..let me know

I bought the 500.00 one

yes, please send me their contact info... OC isn't that far... I'd appreciate any info

is your $500 one the "exact same" one as the OEM one, besides the "mercedes star"? Are the tint bands and everything the exact same?

hopefully mine will be a little cheaper...

Exact. Better than my original.. My original had some distortions in it. So it was a big upgrade for me.. His Name is Bob at Autoglass services INC. 949-293-6188.. Mention Bryan with the silver s500.. He came and did it in my driveway so he will probably meet you 1/2 way or something ? By the way I was referred to him originally by a auto collision repair shop that does alot of work for Laguna Niguel MB, He is their guy! so this was a great find for me. He is a very cool dude and he will bring a helper with him because it is a two man job..I sat and watched these guys do it.. you can tell they have done alot of Benz's (very imortant) ...The real deal for sure.. You will be happy , send me a pm or post something when you get it done. Let Bob know we will put his info up for others..

I remember replacing mine before for $400 with rain sensor, it wasn't OEM but I haven't notice anything different.

I just got a rock on the freeway last week. Here in AZ, that's known to happen two or three times a year.. Most insurance here (mine included) has a 0 deductible writer (where they can't raise your rates, or drop you) for such occurrences. Check if you have such a writer.

Also, They'll (the insurance sub) will try to install some knock off / non-OEM WS... INSIST on MB original parts in new condition! OR you'll likely not get them. My W211 WS goes for $680

I was thinking about filing an insurance claim.... would something like this be considered a comprehensive claim, or a collision claim? I would think comprehensive since "I" didn't hit anything, but rather, something hit me.... and was moving, not stationary....

I don't want it to raise my rates...

Bruce, since you work with insurance, do you have any input on this matter?

I think I will lower my copmrehensive deductible to like $100 since that part is pretty cheap...

Don't misunderstand, I don't work with them.. I was just telling you about the writer on my policy here in AZ.. It's very common to get hit by rocks.. so every policy has a 0-deductablibe glass replacement... AND they cannot raise your rates for it! Guys have gotten 4 claims in a year, and not been affected.

See if your policy has such a writer.. also call your agent and ask him.. he's not going to raise your rate for just asking.

good luck, AND MAKE SURE TO GET MB GLASS!

Danny, this would be covered by the comprehensive coverage and will not hurt your premium, if your deductible is $100/$250 you should go ahead and do it, but most people have either $1000 or $500 deductible which aren't a smart idea to do since the windshield only run about $500 or so. When you lower your deductible your premium will go up, so it's your call rather you want to lower it or not.
