Steering wheel buttons...refinish?

So I buy this great condition 2000 red cab and the steering wheel buttons feel sticky. The leather clonditioner I'm using on the seats and the leather wheel cleans them fine until the coating starts to peel and now I have one very ugly `up' button with the coating messed up.
It looks to me that it's some kind of a spray coating. ANyone had luck restoring the coating? I don't thinnk I want to spend the 300.00+ for new buttons.
Any help would be appreciated! Don't use leather cleaner on those buttons!

happens as a natural deterioration of the material used for and/or on the buttons. goo gone works really well to dislodge the goo. i followed up with 91% isopropyl alcohol and the goo gone and the goo came off easily. typical 70% alcohol sold in drug stores won't work, needs to be 90+%, also can be purchased at the drug store. now good as new!

You need to watch that you don’t rub the image off the buttons though. Once clean, I re-sealed my buttons with clear laquer.
