CLK 430 trade in value
I have a 2001, CLK 430, Silver with Charcoal, 12.4K miles, K3 and six CD. I went to have it appraised by my dealer for my incoming CLK 500. They offered me only $37,500. What have people been offered?

2000 CLK 430
Now that sucks!!! You always get screwed on the trade-in.
Trying sell it on www.traderonline.com
The lowest price I saw for a CLK 430 2000 with 30,000 was $40,000.
Good luck

Don't even consider trading the vehicle in. You will pay an exorbitant penalty. The day after you get 37K for it, they will have it for sale in the paper for 52K. The poor b*stard who comes in will feel like he got a deal for them knocking it down to 49K.
It also helps that the dealers post those overpriced CLKs in the paper. That helps you because an individual buying from a dealer is going to pay a lot, so if you sold yours at 45K, you know there's no way the dealer would go that low.

CLK430
TOO LOW
Your getting ripped off by the dealer, never do dealer trade-ins, Put a FOR SALE sign on your car and drive around for one-day, you'll get a lot of response.

1999 CLK320 Blk/Blk with stupid options that are not used like sunshade
Edmunds is BS. Damn, if I could get those prices I'd have sold my car by now. It says that my CLK320 1999 with cd changer, option package and 22K miles is worth ~$34K and $38K private party.
I got it in the paper for $36K/obo and not a single bite. I'd sell for $33K bottom line, but I need someone to at least call... DOH!
Resale values suck, bottom line. At least here in Hawaii, our resids suck and our stickers are high... ALOHA

.........1999 CLK's are a different story. They are very hard to sell. hey do not have option for ever putting in Command, they do not have tele-aid, no steering wheel controls etc. Pre-2000 CLK's are in a different supply/demand category, hence their re-sale prices are lower.

I've been trying to tell you guys that coupe values are in the tank. It does mean you can buy a great car for good money, but the days of buying one of those cars and getting much of your money back are OVER. Dealers don't want any more coupes--that's what they're trying to tell this customer. With the new coupe in route and sales very flat on existing coupes, that is the reality. Remember, edmunds, KBB, or any of those services are just a guide. They don't buy anything, and they don't spend any money. Whether it's a CLK, a house, or a piece of art, prices are determined by what someone will really pay. Should you try to do better? Sure you should. Just don't be surprised if it ain't much better. Just my .02, which is about what it's worth.

kelly blue books prices are far from accurate.Consumers are mislead when a dealer shows them a printout of the value of the car. There retail prices are way too high I know for a fact.So what I am thinking is there trade in prices are most likely low to again mislead the consumer.Go by the Nada book for more accurate prices. For wholesale subtract 1500$ off of the loan price. If you can buy a car for that you have got a true wholesale price.

Thanks for all the posts. I put an advertisement in the paper and got a deposit today. $43,300 versus $37,500 from the dealer. The Dealer will do an in and out so I can get the sale tax benefit with my buyer for approx $200 out of my pocket.

Used to be a CLK430
Michael,
I'm curious, where do you live and if you don't mind answering, how much did you end up getting for your car? I'm looking for your exact car, but am having difficulty finding one at an affordable price.
Thanks,
Nick

how about for a 2002
What do you all think a 2002 CLK 430 is worth? I mean, what do you all expect for a car like this from a Private Party sale?
The exact config is as follows:
2002 CLK430
Black Opal/Oyster
Less than 10,000 miles
K3 Package & CD Changer
Location: So. Calif
Its a crime for a Dealer to only offer $37.5K for a 2001... shame shame

wow..
For a dealer to offer this amount is very insulting, but I am surprised. Selling it privately, I think you can easily sell this car for 53K-55K depending on the demand in your area. Here in the DC area, these cars sell like hotcakes, and finding a gem w/ 10K and your options is coveted.
Good luck,bro

$53-55K... sweet
Getting $53-55K would be sweet.... but wouldn't someone opt for a new one versus buying a slightly used one?
I just want to know what i'm up against here

points to remember
Sure,
You can make the case 55K for a new car is fine. But we're talking about a CLK430. a CLK430 2002 w/ 10K, and sweet options..is a great deal for 55k. If a potential buyer comes to you with and says why should i buy a used 10K clK for 55K..here's are your points to make
1. Brand spanking new..10K. It hasn't been broken it yet. If the buyer has any knowledge of cars, he/or she will realize 10K is pratically new..
2. Full warranty intact
3. Go and try to buy a new one : waiting period and sticker shock w/opions are a non issue here. cause you have great options.
4. Summertime - demand is high
Lastly, I am not sure about Cali, but, in VA, we have a freaking car tax which is absurb. First time buyers are taxed for cars over 40K. Sucks big time. But, second owners dont pay. So, a second time buyer really lucks out. Not sure if that would apply in your case. But just thoughts..

Congratulations! I need to sell my '00 CLK430 coupe with 25,500 miles in the next 3 weeks, and I hope my ads will be as successful as yours. I don't think I can stomach being offered $30K for my car at a dealer....

Used Mecedes prices
The best place to get the REAL wholesale prices of cars is in the 'At the Auction' section (left column of newsletter) of the Auto Spies newsletter.
It shows the true wholesale prices that DEALERS are paying for cars...
www.autospies.com
Here is today's value of your car (dealers usually pay the lowest of the numbers for your trade)
Projected Values Aug. 2002 Sept. 2002 Aug. 2003
Condition Above Avg Below Avg Avg
Wholesale $43,300 $40,800 $38,200 $40,400 $36,400
Retail $47,300 $44,600 $41,800 $44,100 $39,800
Also, don't forget, the used luxury car market is glutted with cars and our economy is tanking...It's no wonder the dealers are 'playing it safe'

As much as I hate to say this, they are trying to screw you over on the trade & then when your W209 comes in they will do everything they can to rape you again!!! The dealer I work with in So.Cal. goes pretty close to the KBB trade in value, if used properly (Certain cars do not apply: R129 SL's for example). If you go to trade in value and choose either "FAIR" or "GOOD" condition, you will get a pretty close idea of what the Fair Market Value is on your car. The mistake a lot of people make is choosing "EXCELLANT" and expecting to get that from a dealer, which will never happen. Just because it is on paper, doesn't mean a dealer will give you that amount, this is just a guide (KELLY BLUE BOOK does not buy cars!!!! keep that in mind).
Hope this helps & BTW you should get somewhere in the neighborhood of $40-$41k trade in for your car. This is only because the W209 is coming out soon, if not for that you could expect well over $43k!!
