wheels

One thing I have never understood is why people think that by changing to 19 or 20 inch wheels, it makes their car look better. Some of the 18, 19 look nice, but I have a 2002 clk430 and I love the factory wheels. I understand people that supercharge need wider everything, but most of the others that put bigger rims look ugly in my eyes. Of course that's my opinion but there is nothing better looking than even all around, HR springs, original wheels. The 208 look is one of the best one's IMO and it doesn't need stupid enhancements.

Ummm ok . Thanks for your opinion but I will have to disagree. Stock looks good but 19's look even better!

I don't want to argue about it cause I know it's personal taste. I was just trying to find pictures of oem 17's with h&r springs and I only found 2 cars in BenzWorld gallery out of hundreds of pics there. I just thought why this obsession with bigger wheels? Maybe I am the exception. I think 19's look disporportional for the frame of the car but then again that's my opinion.
What I like is something like that

only when you can't get the 19s....

enhancements are all about attitiude and a reflection of personal taste & character... those who 'enhance' their car with diff wheels & suspension want to be different...

Frankly, I don't understand your post. Not trying to be funny...I really don't. What replies are you seeking? The only reply that makes sense is that modding is all about personal taste. One of my cars is quite plentiful everywhere. Lots of people have an ES300. I want to walk out of the mall and instantly recognized my car. I have 17's on it because it makes sense. The car wouldn't ride as nice with bigger wheels. In this case, wider is more important to get that change. Stock were just too skinny.
For the SC300, it's riding on 19's because they suit the car well, the ride is perfect for my taste. I've been changing the wheels on my cars for 20 years. I've never seen a stock wheel look better than an aftermarket wheel yet. But that's my opinion. Everyone has one.

RIMS ON CLK'z

the car does look pretty nice as a whole stock, but adding shoes to any person will enhance the overall look. the stock rims dont fill wheel gap between the fender, while bigger fill the gap making the car look as a whole ONE PIECE. 16z adn 17z are coo for smaller cars, but on BENZ'S, the body of the car is bigger and need proper size shoes to accomodate . IMO

What makes the car's stance look good is the right combo of springs/shocks/rims/tires. A CLK can look terrible with 19's if the suspension is off. Likewise, a CLK can look good with 17's if the suspension is just right.

Look at mmgrad's ride - perfect stance with 19's imo.

I will go bigger and better soon.

I have to admit that mmgrad's ride and wheels are one of the coolest ones I have ever seen. My first mod was changing the emblem to the flat one. For some reason I felt like I lost 20-30 pounds. The star standing there, made me feel like I was a middle aged, bald, big belly guy. Figure that out

You guys are killing me.

Where did you get the 18's from and approx. how much? And what tire sizes front and back? Do they rub and if no did you mod the height (i.e lowered). It doesn't look ike it, but I want to be sure.

wow. i'm not even gonna comment about the 18" or 19" wheels, because everybody has their own opinion, but when someone says "it doesn't need stupid enhancements" that's when i have to say something.

how stupid can you be, newbie? This is a benz forum. People "enhance" their cars here. Once you read a little bit more, you will know the lingo....it's "MOD" or "MODS"....not enhance. DO you think the members here just join to talk about how nice their STOCK benzes are? They MOD their cars, post pics, and ask advice on what mod to do next. BY saying that the W208 doesn't need stupid enhancements, you are pretty much saying that the stock W208 looks better than a modded one. *****! why don't you take a look at Josh's, Danny's, Timmy's, ****...and pretty much everybody else's modded CLK?

and if you have time, just go to the link in my sig and take a look at my car. tell me that your bone stock clk w/ H&R's looks better....LOL

Hey relax there oldie. Thank you for making it clear to me that we are talking about "mods". Have been doing mods since my first car and now I am 32. I have always tried to first fix things that matter.
Like handling, most cars can be completely transformed with a better suspension and the clk430 really needs it. Then tires if the oem aren't good, then little power improvements but from what the newbie has read here for the last 2years, except from the amg airbox you can't do much for a clk430 unless you are willing to spend a lot and have a knowledgeable mechanic around your neighborhood.

Body improvements like spoilers and wheels would come last on my list. I would change my wheels to 18's if I had an amg but i don't think it's necessary with the 430.
As for your car first I wouldn't be able to go into my garage with this front spoiler and I am not so crazy about it anyways, then these blue fog lights not my style, the wheels I like but how did the car feel on crappy roads?

As I said from the beginning it's personal taste and I actually praised a car above . I opened the thread because I went through hundreds of pics through the 2 most popular MB forums and there were only 2-3 pics with a lowered 17 car.
Whose car is better? Mine of course, cause I don't drive an Acura
