Talking Corvette C5 or CLK 430

I have owned Porsches and most recently a 2000 C5. I sold it after two years to conquer something new. I am picking up a 2002 CLK 430 in two days and want to find out if anyone else has made this transition. I love the power and torque of the C5 am I hoping the 430 will bid well. I know it's not as fast or quick (otherwise I would have purchased the CLK 55) but, nevertheless I hope I won't be disappointed.

Set me straight before I ink up.

2000 Clk 430
Re: Corvette C5 or CLK 430

Jesej,
I own a NSX besides my CLK 430. Totally different cars. The CLK has a fantastic engine and transmission and gobs of torque. I find myself driving my CLK more than the NSX. Lower your CLK and I think you will be pleasently surprised on how well it handles. My NSX is my track car but the last two years I have been tracking the CLK. The CLK IMO is very predictable and easier to drive at or near the limits. Good luck.

2002 CLK 55 AMG Coupe ;)
jesej:

I traded my 2001 C5 for a 2002 CLK 55 AMG. (actually for a 2001 SL 500 first, which was a disappointment)

The 2002 CLK 55 AMG is the best car I've owned, going back to 1886, when Karl Benz patented his tri-cyle motorcoach and Gottlieb Daimler built the four-wheeled automobile!

This CLK is simply fantastic in EVERY way.

It is faster and better: Love the electronics, the Command GSP, ride quality and safety, and the Mercedes-Benz mystique.

My C5 engine was running up to 225 F and armrest compartment always hot coupled w/oil consumption problems, piston ring replacements as a prospect - all were of concern.

After 6,000 miles on the C5, - I am glad I traded.

CLK55, Mini S
I've ridden in and driven my friend's 2000 vette several times and it was a blast. Lots of power and great road feel...but my friend traded it after a year because it was shaking his kidneys loose. You ride so much lower than a CLK. The vette has a race car feel, but it also has a cheap car feel. I mean, it had some of the same dash/stereo components as my 98 Tahoe had. I liked the heads-up speedo display.

But the CLK is definitely more of a luxury car, much more refined and stylish. My wife thought the vette was cheesey, even though I think it is a world class sportscar, at least until it starts to rattle apart.

Howard,

Thx for the comments particularly about lowering the CLK. I lowered my vette as well and the ride was harsher. The CLK's look great lowered. What springs did you go with??

karl k,

I was tempted to go with the CLK55 but, wanted to stay in the $55k range. Every report and test I have read about the CLK 55 says it's a "monster" of a car with plenty of power. Have fun.

hmrdwn,

I've got my one Chevy (2000 Tahoe) in the garage. It's time for something not so cheesey.
