Question for people with 02 CLK aftermarket audio systems

For those of you who put in a totally aftermarket stereo system, did you use any of the factory speaker wiring or run new wires? Specifically, people with '02 Bose systems. Thanks.

I think it might be a necessity. I had everything replaced with high quality stuff but it sounds terrible - almost like some of the frequencies are missing (particularly in the highs). Everything was replaced but factory wiring was used to get to the doors/rear deck speakers. A big installer (not local) just told me last week you couldn't use the factory wiring in this car - that it has stuff in the speaker path. I've been trying to get a wiring diagram for the 02 CLK Bose to confirm but the ones people have sent me don't match the Bose CLK config (1"/4"/6.5" each door / 2 - 6.5" rear deck). I have seen a non-Bose diagram that shows 3 front door speakers somewhat like ours would be and it looks like some of the speakers are tied together in the door and then separated. I just wondered if anyone had successfully used the factory wiring. I guess I'll just have to get new wiring run and cross my fingers. I don't think my head unit or my front/rear amp is bad.

Rewire the complete setup, and make sure the shop checks to see if your speakers are wired correctly. I used to run into this problem daily and the #1 problem was that the speakers were wired incorrectly or they were blown. If you still want to clean up the sound i would suggest an EQ. Also check your gain and crossover freq on your amp.

ok all the shops lie to you and most people fall for it. go buy a vw harness and the wires will be the same except for ACC and 12V are reversed (red/yellow flip) I have sucessfullly installed 5 headunits into different clks and all sound great with using the bose amp. The only time u will want to run new wiring is if u replace the door speakers and in that case you must replace the wiring because the bose speakers are 2 ohm, and the wiring has crossovers in the doors for the tweeters and the rears are midrange only.

Hope this helps.

I'm referring to the speaker wires not the headunit wiring. The shop used the wires in the trunk (the old Bose output wires) to run from the aftermarket 4 channel amp to the front doors and rear deck. You mentioned the factory wiring had crossovers for the tweeters in it - do you know where the crossovers are located? Within the doors somewhere?
Thanks.
