How to take off rear bumper guard??
Can anyone tell me how to remove the bumper guard strip that runs across the middle of the rear bumper (wraps around from side-to-side). It's obviously a separate piece, but I don't know if it's bolted on or clipped on. Do I have to take off the bumper first, or can I just grab the end of the bumper gaurd and pull really hard to snap it off (I would of course have to have a new one ready before I did that).
A few months ago I installed 4 backup sensors onto the rear bumper. They're not working satisfactorily, so I want to try a different brand, which means I need to replace the bumper guard which now has 4 holes in it. For those of you who may be thinking of doing this, a word of advice: the sensors I bought (ordered on-line) have a minimum height requirement for mounting (I forgot what it is, but I think it was 56 cm). The website said nothing about this of course. I tried them anyway, and they work alright, but they're so close to the minimum tolerance that the alarm will go nuts when I'm backing out of my driveway because it is sloped, and the sensors are detecting the ground. I've driven friend's cars with factory sensors, and they didn't have a problem with my driveway slope.

There are tabs that the impact strips snap into and you may rip these. Removing the rear bumper is not that difficult. Obviously you need to remove the trunk mat and both sides of the trunk liner to access side bolts. First thing to do is the horseshoe clips and the trunk lip.
The rivet is found on the outside in the wheel well. It holds the mud guard in place

Thanks
ThrillKill: Thanks for the info.
Since it sounds fairly easy to remove the bumper I think I'll do that so I don't take a chance at breaking something on the bumper by forcing off the impact strip.
