Getting to the brake lamp in rear window

Hello everyone im new and i just purchased a 2001 clk430 . Now I noticed that the brake lamp in the rear window doesnt work but when I opened the trunk I saw a wire disconnected. I would like to see if this connects into the light but I see it is very hard just to get to that lamp. So if anyone has any pointers for me it would be very helpful because i cant see me paying the dealer 250 to connect that wire for me. Thanks!

If you stick your head in the trunk and look up you can't see where it connects? I know I've taken the wire out before and I thought you could see it. Maybe I remember wrong?

Look....I'm honestly not trying to be mean here but seriously, if you can't get to the lamp then remove what's in your way. I KNOW it's not that hard. I'm not sitting here looking at my car obviously but I know I've looked up there before to remove the wire. Don't be afraid to do a little experimenting. I mean even if you mess something up a little it's still in a place no one is ever going to see it (the roof of your trunk). Just get out there and get your hands dirty a little. You can't honestly tell me you tried taking things apart or taking an exacto knife to cut something out of your way or whatever you need to do to get this done, can you? Don't blame people here. There's a ton of great information on these MB forums.

Open your trunk. You will have to lay on your back, so get a pillow or something. Directly below the third brake there are two wires, brown for neg, black for pos. They may be behind some batting, just fish around you'll find them. Just reconnect. If it is the bulb itself you're in for a hell of a job to get to the hat shelf.
REMEMBER!!! Remove the key from the ignition before you do any electrical work on your car!!!!
