ok so yesterday i noticed this weird noise comming from under the car... it sounds like, hummm.... like a screw inside a metal can and when u shake it around, thats how it similary sounds like... oh this sound also occurs when the car is in Reverse or Drive but no such noise in Park or Neutral... what worries me is that something is wrong with my transmission and i'm gonna have to pay outta my butt to fix it, or it could be something else(hopefully) and it's an easy fix... what kind of problems do you guys think it is that might be causing this noise? all i can think of is some peice of metal is loose and the engine vibration causing the peice of metal to hit another metal causeing this sound, BUT since the noise only comes on when the car is in gear, then the metal hitting metal is very unlikely... please please please someone help me on this one...

Check your Cat . It might be dead. Or mabey the metal shield around it is damged ,and its hitting the structure around it . I had simler sound ,and it was the metal shield was hitting the cat and cousing this wierd sound , all i had to do is to weld it back together . I hope that all you have .

alright alright... i'll be going over to a friends garage for a jack to lift up the car and check what's happening... thanks for the replies...

i too have this problem of a metallic sound coming at the front of the car or somewhere....just can't seem to be able to pin point the exact location....at first it was a slight sound occuring only when i hit 200km/h abt 120 miles/h.....nowadays it happen at 60 miles/hr and it just doesn't go off.....is it the same problem?

is the same problem...today went to the shop...hoist the car up and bingo the metallic plate surrounding the exhaust was sort of wrap around the exhaust....pull it back up....no more sound....thanks for the advice

yep surely it was the heat shield thing making the noise... the macanic that i brought my car to hammered it back to place and no more sound... but how can u hear this sound when u hit 200+km/h? i only hear this sound when ideling in gear... and plus at 200km/h wouldn't the wind noise cover the sound?

trust me u can.....the metallic sound was very worrisome especially when doing such speeds....when driving at 40 - 50 miles/hr no sound at all and even at idle.....brought along the mechanic for a high speed run at the freeway and he instantly pointed out the heat shield...claiming is a common problem though...but all is well now...thanks guys

according to him is due to the high speed thus cause the heat shield to vibrate and it was basically stuck to the exhaust...all he did was don on the gloves and pull it back up.....thats it....no more noise

I would really recomand welding the heat shield to the chasis , because this thing gona move on you later .
