Remote key fob problem

Remote key fob problem
Hi to everybody. I'm new to this forum, I just bought a 2000 CLK320 cab.(for my wife) in very good condition, everything works. It's a great car, we fell in love with this car(previous car 1994 Mazda MX6-LS). The problem we have it's actually created by me. The remote's range it was very low and I thought that the battery is low, but after I found out that is OK I reinstalled it and did not work any more(no LED lights up). What I'm thinking, that it's possible that I installed the battery backwards the first time. This could damage the remote? Remote is the bigger sized one.
If I was reading first this forum it would not happen none of this.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

I dont think that inserting the battery backwards would do anything. However, you might have forced the metal tabs back into the casing incorrectly. They tend to pop up and go ontop of the circuit board instead of lying flat and going beneath it (like they must in order to function). If you forced it in with the metal contact over the circuit board, you could have broken something loose on the board itself.
My remote sometimes has poor range. In order to unlock it sometimes i have to push the button very hard (but this has been less of a problem recently). I would check to make sure you have the right batteries (it should say what kind they are on the back) and if that doesnt work you may want to just buy a new key.

yes you are right, sorry. I have a coupe not a cabriolet. I fill so stupid, but I still share my experience for the future owners to know. when I opened the remote the batteries felt and one of them rolled under the bed and I did not see it. when I was remounting the battery found out that the remote would not work. I did not realize that needed two batteries.
