Car Problem, Need help!

Hey fellas,

I am have a problem with my car. Sometime when I insert my key into the ignition and turn, the engine turns over and die on me. In a matter of fact the engine didn't quiet turn all the way. You can hear the engine about to ignish but it just give in. I always have to do it twice when that happens. Why is this happening? anyone? It started happening about 4 days ago. Just want to check with you guys first before I take it to MB dealer.

Thanks fellas.

Sounds like a fuel supply problem to me. Your dealer should be able to diagnose and fix. How many miles on this car?

It's a 1999 CLK430 and it has 33,000 miles. Well at least now I have some idea what to say to MB dealer. Thanks karl.

Smile Try this

I know it sounds crazy, but I've had the same problem with my '00 430 Cab, and I found that if I just pushed the lock button on the key, even while in the car, and then turned it back off, it somehow resets the key connection to the rest of the on-board computer systems and Volia, it's back as new!!

Keeps down the trips to the dealership and works with other little quirks too, like when the sound system only turns on with only one channel and such.

Give it a try; it can't hurt and post your results.

My '99 CLK430 does that to me once in a while. I turn the key and nothing happens. I like to yell out "missfire!!!!" when it happens. But it always starts on the second try. I'd say in the past month its only happened twice. I figure I'm not that lazy where I can't turn the key twice!! Never bothered to get it checked out. If it happens every time then fix it.....but I say if it ain't broke, don't get charged!

Yes, but.......

I know what you mean about just trying turning the key again, but in this case, even turning the key a number of times, it seems like the engine tries to start only to "act" like it's a fuel pump or battery issue. But ,in fact, it's just a little hicup in the computer, which by "sync"ing the key with the computer just seems to make all parties happy again.

BTW, I believe that it works best if you lock the car while the key is in the lock, and then unlock it a few seconds after locking it.

I'm a Mac user, so maybe it's got an Intel inside or something like that? :-)

(Jim now leaving the room to go put on flame suit!)

I had this happen to me today for the very first time ,drove home parked car for 30-45 mins car started fine, backed out of garage to wash it ,washed it and when I started car it turned over and stalled, twice, then all was fine, tried to start it 4 times more and all ok. (I turned the key to the accs. position to run the windshield wiper twice belore I started the car after the wash, don't know if that could have caused a computer/sensor hiccup?Or maybe I pushed the lock button on the key while I turned the key). Thoughts anyone?

Bansasn, what was the outcome after your visit to the dealer?

Thanks

Finally I got my car back!

MB technician said it was a malfunction of the flywheel missing the turn. First of all they regrees the part and scan the system. They found out that the computer was thinking the car is still on. That's why sometime I can't start on the first tried. They recalberate the computer and it's okay now.

Is there a verified standard protocol for computer resetting with the key as mentioned by others in this thread? Anyone know for sure?

Thanks
