Upgrading to wood steering wheel
I have a 2001 CLK (W208). I am thinking of removing the stock leather steering wheel and installing an OEM wood steering wheel.
Has anyone done this? How much do you think the dealer will charge for just installing the wood steering wheel?
I am thinking of just letting an authorzed MB dealer do the installation instead of letting an independent mechanic do the job, because I am very afraid that if the job was not done right, the airbag might not deploy one day when I really need it. How likely do you think this is?
I really don't like to mess with factory installed parts, especially the airbag.

too bad your not in nyc i would do it for free for you, ive done mine and a few other forum members cars over here in ny/nj. do a search under my name and youll see i posted instructions and what size tools you need. i believe its a 27T to remove the 2 long black screws that hold the airbag on and a 10mm allen that holds the wheel onto the column.

Thanks for your offer. I found your previous post and got the instructions.
You can find the wood steering wheel on EBay. They will not always have the one you want, but if you check often enough, someone sooner or later will sell the color that you need.
