is it worth it?

I recently found a 2001 clk430 convertible for $3,500... it needs some work but has 140,000 miles... it needs front bumper,a/c, seats, carpet, tune-up and cat converters... estimated about 5k worth of work... is it worth the money and work on that amount of mileage?

please share your thoughts.

Is it a flood car? Does it have a salvage title? Any pics?

don't do it, man. you might think fixing all the stuff will make the car purrrrfect, but it probably wont. that damage is way more than $5k. AC alone is at least around $2-3k. haha, factory carpet is damn expensive too. i think around $500 or so

If you are independently wealthy and don't have anything to do for the next 12 months then I would recommend this. Otherwise, RUN! Seriously, you are talking $10K in parts and I suspect there are many other problems with something in the condition that this puppy is in. What the hell happened to this car? Post some pics.

found out more

no pics, it was a repo... i found more out about it, I RAN AWAY!
the top doesn't work, the paint was redone but an amatuer, it never had the oil or spark plugs changed....and the list went on. it would have been a good price if it needed some work not a complete rebuild.

Anyone else know of a deal thats not junk?

With those miles its probably a $20,000 car when you get done with it if it's done right. Not much room for error if for example the tranny is bad and you didn't budget for it. With normal mileage it would be worth around $30K. I have the same car with 68K with prior salvage history that is all done and I'll be selling soon for the low $20's.
