My 60K maintenance progress...

Well since I got the car with no maintenance records what so ever, I'm doing my own verion of the 60K maintenance:

So far I've done:
filter + 0w40 Mobil 1 synthetic
new oem intake filters
cleaned throttle body
transmission flush with new oem fluid ($$$) and filter
rear diff flush with Mobil 1 synthetic

Parts on the way:
serpentine belt
idler pulley
fuel filter
engine mounts
tranny mount
steering shock

... that oughta do it

Good list...mine is at 56K and I've done just about everything you've done:

filter and mobile one 0w40
rear diff was flush cuz it was leaking so repacked and resealed
tranny flush last week
air filter last year
Engine mounts last year

Have the serpentine belt...but havent replaced it yet...how do you when when to replace it?

Didnt think of the idler pulley, steering shocks or tranny mounts...what symptoms does the idler pulley give you if its bad? ever now and then i get a lil vibration when the car is idle at the light that kind of pulsates?

Usually when you fold the belt if you can see cracks in it, its time to replace it.

they tend to go before 100K - you should be able to see the wear on the edges of it - tiny cracks.

I forgot to add:
spark plugs and possibly wires
new tires
alighment

60 K Maintenance

Hey There,

Thanks for sharing the info on 60K maintenance, it sounds logical. Are you suggesting this plan for all models? I have a C2002 320 and have some questions about this. Are replacements of the engine & transmission mounts really needed at this stage? If so, why? As a previous Acura, Honda, Toyota and Chevy owner, I only had to replace the engine mounts on a 92' Accord with more than 130K miles. Does MB insist that rear differential fluids be flushed and changed so soon?

I realize dealers quote x and independent shops quote y when owners ask what they should do. I would appreciate if one of the experts out there can offer some insight on what should be done to ensure the most amount of trouble free mileage.

Thanks,
Al

Very informative - thanks for the post...

In regards to the differential post... would you provide some specifics about the mobil fluid you used?
Steering Shock - would you please explain this process and its purposes?
Cleaned Throttle Body - explain...

Thanks in advance.

I just put new tires on my car and an aligment was done as well, I saw the steering shock absorber at Autohauz.com and since it was only about $24, I said what the hell I'll change it. What I noticed was my car needed an aligment very badly, I hate Town Fair Tire they suck. As far as the steering shock goes it seems as I don't feel the much on the steering wheel from hitting potholes.
