Intrument Cluster
I have a "new" instrument cluster that I bought from a friend who never installed it on his MBZ. I would like to replace mine b/c I am missing LED segments in my temp. and clock.
I connected the new cluster and everything works but the odometer. It displays ----------. The new cluster has about 20K miles on it, and my cluster has 34K.
Is there something that has to be programmed into the ECU? I was hoping that it would be plug and play. I am hoping that I won't have to take it to the dealer in order to get it to work.
Any MB techs here that can help me out or somebody who is knowledgeable about what I am talking about?

It is not plug and play - I'm not trying to be a smartass but some searches here would have given you a heads up on that. The ECU has nothing to do with it.
When I got my new one from the dealer, it was programmed out of the MB parts headquarters in Texas.
I haven't heard of a dealer reprogramming one but that doesn't mean it can't be done. If a used one can be reprogrammed. the dealer has to do it for you and if they can they will need your old cluster to read the mileage off of it and program your new one to the correct mileage...this is how they stop odometer rollbacks.
