Oil Over Capacity!!!
Help! Im just not smart! I got an oil change done about 3 weeks ago. I think they put 8 quarts of oil in. The next day I checked the dip stick and the wet line was half way between min and max. To me, I thought that meant I was low, and that I should be at the max line. The computer also said to add oil. So I bought another quart and dumped the whole thing in....not thinking at all. I have been driving like this since...thinking everything is fine.
I checked the computer yesterday and it said, Reduce Oil level. I checked the dip stick and the wet line is covering the whole arrow. Am I going to blow up my engine? I thought the oil capacity was 9-9.5 quarts? The car isnt smoking or anything, and runs perfect, but I worry about everything....

I think I read in the manual that too much oil will cause some engine damage although when I talked to my dealer about it they told me it was no big deal, BUT, mine wasn't covering the whole dipstick. I would just take it to where you had the change done and have them drain 1/2 a quart...

the best time to check engine oil level is before you start your car in the morning, also to much oil in the crankcase is like making your engine work harder when the rotating assembly smacks all that oil around. it's like trying to run in water waist deep!! just drive easy antil you drain 1/2 to 3/4
