Today's The Day

Today is the day that I sell my beloved CLK430. You may have seen my posts: 2002 w/7,800 miles on it. I will end up selling it to CarMax for $28K.

Hate to do it but I (obviously) am not driving it much. Had to deal with a potential scammer from the web. He sent me a check for more than the purchase price and expected me to send the difference to the shipping company. Then, I would be out the difference...in this case $5,500. I called the bank the check was drawn on. Turns out, it was a bad check. Luckily, I didn't bite.

So long and good luck.

Yes, that's a familiar scam. Good thing you didn't bite because not only would you have been out of a car but the feds would have shown up at your doorstep wanting to talk as well. That's bank fraud (which YOU would have committed because YOU cashed the check), which is, of course a felony.
As a matter of fact, you wouln't have had the car, your money, AND you would have been on your way to jail!
Also, watch out for the scam (w/you as a buyer) where the seller is telling you that the car is currently being 'stored in the eBay warehouse' so you can't see it just yet.

Actually, be very careful in the near future. Since the scammer sent you a check, he now has your address (and possibly phone number). Since you've 'caught' them on your CLK sell, they could (and will) try other scam games on you. Strange checks could show up in your mailbox! It happened to a friend of mine. Beware!
