Sun Roof is Acting Up - Suggestions?
Hi gang, I am a farily new owner of a 1999 CLK430.
Recently the sliding sunroof has been acting up.
It had been intermittantly not sliding closed all the way but with a few extra pushes of the switch it would work again.
Well, today it would not close all the way.
It slides smooth and quietly but just stops about 1" from closed.
If I push forward on the switch (closing) the sunroof actually slides backward into the open position!
The only way I can get it to slide forward into the closed position is to push up on the switch which when working correctly will slide it forward and then up into the pop up position.
However, even doing that it was still stopping about 1" short of closed.
I got out and pushed down on the deflector shield a few times which moved easily without any obvious problems, then I tried again and now it will go into the pop-up position again, so I just stop pushing when it gets to closed.
However, pushing forward still makes the roof go backwards....
Is this a simple switch failure?
Is there a write up or walk-through or diagram somewhere to help out with this.
I am pretty handy, but have never had to work on a sliding sunroof before, so I am at a loss on where to start. I hope you guys can help me out here.

All you have to do is Re-Sync the switch. Forgot how to do this. Involves opening it up all the way, and holding the switch there and then closing it.
For details, search the forum for sunroof switch synchronization (or sync).
Alternatively, your owner's guide should tell you how to do this. The same thing can happen with your seats, and windows...
Gotta love early technology.

Yep that was it!!!
The manual says to push it into position 3 while key is turned to position 2.
ie. one click to the right on the key, push the roof button up to pop open the roof, then open hold it up for one more second and tadah...
Now it works perfectly.
I love forums, thank you thank you thank you

You welcome.
Welcome to the forum too. Is it too much to ask for a picture of the CLK ... or better yet.. the ultra RARE and still $$$ VR4 Spyder?
My brother's dream car is that VR4 Spyder!
