Moving the A/C Unit

Just a quick question for all you techies... Does anyone know how easy it is to move the A/C controll unit in a w208 below the stock head unit so i can put an aftermarket headunit where th A/C Controlls used to be? I Don't want to give up my stearing wheel toggle buttons but I want an AVIC-N3...
Here's a picture of what im talking about...

It's the same size as the head unit and is also removed with keys. Pull it, then pull the storage slot and slide it in and you'll have a space for the aftermarket unit.

oops, I forgot about the toggle switches. Why don't you just put it below like I did?

Radio, phone control, cassette, cd & navigation. The unit came out of a 2005 ML500. Thanks for the comps.

Remove the oem head unit and the storage tray then you'll have a double din slot and you won't have to mess with the climate control or toggle switches.

The only thing bad (with the MC unit at least) is, when you open the unit door and you are in park, it will hit the shift knob, but you can easily move the knob out of the way plus there is no real reason to open the door anyway. Not sure how the Pioneer units open.

Ahhhh, now i see what you were trying to say. Well the headunit i want
(AVIC-N3)
doesnt take up that much space. It sits flush in the spot previously used by the ac unit. Puls i'm leaving the stock sterio unit where it is. So to recap the ac unit is going below the stock sterio unit where the storeage unit is, and the AVIC is going where the AC unit used to be, up top. I just like the way the set up looks better that way.

You're leaving the stock radio in? Would the stock be just for looks at that point? With the new AVIC in, what purpose does the stock headunit serve?

Thrill, who did that radio/headunit mod for you or did you do it yourself. If so, how easy was it?
Must be interesting having a ML on the screen pop up when the unit is on. I wonder if there's a way to change the 'desktop' image to a CLK?!

Good question. Basicly i love my stearing wheel buttons. I Don't want to give them up, and if i want to keep using them i need to leave the Bose system as-is. Therefor i'm purchasing a Pioneer amp to go with the avic. Then i can bridge it with the bose amp and intergrade the avic. That way i can have all the audio from the avic come out on my bose speakers without changing the system. In doing this I retain use of the stearing wheel buttons. Once you change the bose system, the buttons die

Oh wow. PLEASE post pics of that setup when you get it done. I'd love to see it. My question is, with the storage compartment gone, where will you put your loose change?!

Here you go..... ( excuse the blurryness, I took this with my phone )
It is a Kenwood Excelon DDX 7015 Double Din Touch Screen High def CD/DVD F.M./A.M. receiver with alot of other stuff too ( even Navi if you purchase the extra piece) It required NO modification, they pulled out the factory unit and shaved down the plastic piece and Voila!.....

Yea, your opinion counts. This comming from someone who spent more on their rims and body kit than their V6

this is what i did

i got tired of the dvd blocking the ac controls it was a simple swapping of places had to trim the storage unit to fit the space the ac controls came from

for all you people who want to remove your headunit or your ac controls just get 2 big sized hair pins. peel off the rubber nubbies at the ends then slide them into eachside of the units and pull outwards. used to install car stereos learned this trick
