will some of the wood steering wheels work with the stock airbag?
I'd like to chunk the all black leather steering wheel and go with a wood / leather combo. I was wondering about the airbag that is stock on my '99.
I don't have steering wheel controls so that's not an issue with changing them out, but what steering wheels can I borrow from in the Mercedes fleet - and can I retain my current airbag?

I accidently bought a MP Designs black leather and c/f for my 01 CLK55 and it turns out it only fits 99's. The airbag is a different shape in the 99's so it wont fit my 55 but it will fit yours perfectly (retain stock airbag). It costs over $1k new and thats exactly what the steering wheel is, brand spankin new. If you're interested make me an offer. The steering wheel looks SICK! Its thicker and has grooves for your thumbs. I will get some pics tonight if you want.

I'd like to use a newer stock steering wheel from a later CLK (circa 2002). I don't care if the steering wheel controls do not work, I just don't wanna look at the early air bag anymore.
Anyone done this swap before?

What REALLY wanna know is if I can swap to the newer W208 steering wheel. I have a 99 and it looks bland in comparison. I don't give a rat's bottom about steering wheel controls.
What did NOT fit about the steering wheel you bought that was for 99 only? Just the airbag?
I'll buy a complete wheel and bag if I can swap it directly over.
