Thumbs up need help

Greetings from Toronto

well, I bought a CLK430 and the previous owner removed 430 and put 55 in the back.
The problem is that the spot where 0 (zero) used to be is all messed up now, and you can see a zero shape in bright sun or even day light.

I tried all polishers, I even tried to buff it out but nothing.

I ordered a small german flag emblem and am considering sticking it on top of this spot.

I could buy letters CLK430 (have to buy the whole thing) but it costs a lot more than a flag.

Plus, 55 looks nicer than 430,

Any other suggestions?

Also, I've got 19" summer tires on right now and just bought winter 17"s (see pic in my link).

Thanks for any input.

Whoah!!!! I guess people do that all the time but you dont wanna be one of them. My take on the sitch-o, Debadge all together and find some cleaner / polish or whatever to remove the shadow (Consult detail forum). Otherwise get rid of the AMG and replace the 430.

You're gonna get called on the AMG 55 sooner or later and you dont wanna be left lookin like a chump. You've got a GREAT lookin ride man....make it legit!

Just lookin out.

It's pretty obvious without matching the monoblock wheels and such.

option 1- put 430 back on

option 2- Debage the car

option 3- burn it

I think you should be able to add the AMG badge though. They should have came with them. ALL 430's get full amg body and a slightly less aggressive variation of amg suspension from the factory.

"Technically" they produced an AMG 430 and an AMG 55. The 55 SHOULD have the big power otherwise there'd be no need in having a "55" in the line up. The engine being the major difference, the only correct thing to do is to produce them as 430 AMG and 55 AMG since they share the same amg body and share different versions of AMG tuned suspension. That doesn't mean they can't recognize the 430 as being loaded with AMG goodies from the factory that the 320 does not have. hell it says AMG on everything else (wheels, body panels are stamped amg ((look under your rear bumper by the tow hitch)) and a few other things).

If you look up your car's vin at the dealer it will say CLK 430 with AMG option package. Mercedes acknowledged it as an AMG options car, but chose not to badge it.

JMO.....

sorry....NO such thing as a AMG CLK430.

there are absolutely NO AMG CLK430's. Sure, the 430 has all the kit and AMG rims (but not the monoblocks), but since when does a body kit justify being an AMG?

ALL that exterior stuff can be bought very inexpensively. The MAIN reason our CLK55's are badged as "AMG" is the fact that the 5.4L V8 engine is under our hood....NOT because of our body kit.

To avoid being a poser, I would remove the 55 and put the 430 emblem back on. To get that area looking more uniform, try using Zaino Z-PC Fusion Dual Action Paint Cleaner Swirl Remover. Works great and then follow up with some Zaino wax. Thats should take care of the issue. Had the same problem with my car, an AMG emblem I wanted to get rid of and the Zaino took the discoloration away. Good luck!

thanks guys, I will most likely remove everything.

But the thing is, all of the 430s that I have seen here in Canada come with the AMG badge in the back.
anyways, thank for suggestions, Vlad

it's disappointing to know as an enthusiast (and I said it right up there) you are unaware these have AMG SUSPENSION as well, leaving only the engine as the major difference which is designated on the other side of the car. (430 V/S 55)

JMO.....[/QUOTE]

hes not saying that we have a true amg its just that we have an amg fashioned car, besides the body style if you look at our engine its pretty much a lower class amg type of set up compared to the 320. i would never badge my car with anything other than what it is tho. i see it as the 430 is a mix of the 320 and the 55 (320 with amg type options which is what he states in his comment)

Yeah, if you debadge too late...no matter what, you'll still see the outline of the letters. Your best bet is to order CLK430 and stick it back on

One more thing - you should try and see how it looks having the chrome star on your summer/19in wheels. Someone on here used to have a black 430 with those same wheels and chrome center stars and it looked pretty good. I think his car was lowered though.

Not true, a good strong goo remover, polish and wax will fix that with no problem. (removed mine at 55K miles or so)

I tried mine around 90K miles and maybe 7-8 years old. I used a ton of goo-gone, hair dryer method, etc, and finally got all the residue gone but there was still an outline of the letters. I tried polish, wax, and even the rubbing compound thing...nothing made that "CLK" ghost go away haha.

Could be the color of the paint. I removed all badges (car=silver metallic) at 50k and buffed all traces out. Looks like nothing was ever there.

first off, I guess you didn't read in my previous post that the MAIN reason the 55's are badged as AMG is because of the ENGINE.....not the body kit or the rims.

secondly....the CLK55's have different springs and shocks as well as stock eibach front and rear sway bars which the 430's don't. Don't be dissapointed at anybody....learn from this forum as it is extremely educating.

bottom line is this: BOTH are very nice cars, but the 55 is the ONLY AMG.

Uh, I'm in Toronto as well and do NOT have AMG on mine. I have a 2002 CLK 430 Cabriolet.

Other CLK 430's that I ve seen here do NOT have AMG on them from the factory (430's), I can guarantee you that.

So, let's not deceive our US neighbours with that unless you have factual info to back that up.

2000 CLK 430
My 2 cents...

The previous owners' badged Bullet (my 430) with "AMG"....I don't have any idea how to begin to take the badge off, so it remains...I know it is not a TRUE AMG, but it doesn't really bother me...but on this forum, I see a lot of panties in a bunch...(no offense)....My x has a S600 AMG and he is one of the biggest enthusiasts that I have ever met--and he understands that I am not a "poser"....just my 2 cents

Thanks for any input.
Take off the "55" also and use a glass rubbing compound this will remove all evidence of lettering. The 55 has a 5.4 liter and is called a "55", yours is a 4.3 liter so you have the right to call it a "44". You have the AMG exterior package, the wheels, and a bit of its suspention which justifies the ///AMG
badge. As for the 44, CLK44 looks alot more sportier than CLK430 and no one can say your lying about your engine size! With 275hp (stock), You can feel proud to wear your new "44" badge knowing you can run circles around those SC400 guys ect. BE PREPARED for lots of racing: The M3 guys are going to want to see what your really woking with...
