I raced an 04 g35 with a K&n typhoon intake I took him by about 2 cars.I was in manumatic mode 1st gear I shifter at 6K rpm but the car did not shift till red line about 6200-6300 rpm. Then I could smell the exhaust and it smelt like a gas smell.I have amsoil 10-30 with 2700 miles on it.Did I damage any thing what happens when you red line any unseen damage. Why didn't the rev limiter on the car kick in and bounce. It this usual to hit 6300rpm???

Cool Shifting...

This is what I know in regards to shifting.
I drive a 2001 CLK430, pic of my shifter.

1. Driving in "D" the car shifts smoothly (passive driving) and no where near Redline.

2. Driving in manual shifting mode, 1st gear then 2nd etc. the car WILL go beyond Redline.

3. Driving in manual mode, selecting 4th Gear only (as displayed on the dash).
I do this while moving or at a stop.
The car shifts harder and closer to Redline without going over.
Noticeably more aggressive performance then just in normal Drive ("D") position.

What the hell kind of shifter is that????? Why does mine go from 1-D with more slots? Maybe this wasn't offered in '99?

Looks like more trouble to me.

It's really simple once you do it a few times.
This is where the power is at.

My shifter works like this...
When I move it from P to -D+ that places the transmission into normal drive mode.

Autoshift mode (as I like to call it)
Again while driving or stopped, if I tap the shifter to the left the display on the dash shows "4" (4th gear) and I feel a very slight change in the transmission.

When I leave it in "4" the car is much more agressive and you can definatly hear and feel the power coming from the engine/tranny.

Manual shift mode
This is where you need to pay attention to your RPMs so they don't go beyond Redline.

If I tap it again to the left tranny down shifts to 3rd gear and is reflected on the dash as "3", and so on.

Like wise if the display on the dash shows "1", "2" or "3" when I tap the shifter to the right the tranny shifts up a gear. If in "4" it goes back to "D" for normal driving mode.

Doesn't anyone else know about this???

sweet. I heard people talking about "manumatics" and thought I was either missing something or not driving mine the full way it was intended. glad I saw yours before trying something completely stupid in mine.

wish i had your shifter, but i'm kinda glad i don't in a way. for me personally, i know I'd be driving it like my old 300z way too much if I had a manual option. Be fun a couple of time though!

Anyone know if there is a performance difference between the Pre 2000 cars with the regular 5 speed automatic and the 2000+ cars with the manumatic transmission? Curious as I have a 99+ and sometimes the transmission seems really sluggish at times.
