Oil burning

I have a 2000 CLK 430 with about 60,000 miles and have had the check engine oil warning come on twice over a 1500-2000 mile period.

After the first warning I checked the level manually and found that it was about a quart low. I put a quart of Mobil 5w-30 in and drove about 1500 to 2000 miles and the warning light came on again. I check the level and found it a quart low. I do not seem to see any blue or gray smoke from the exhaust while driving. I have no leaking on the garage floor at all and the car is not driven aggressively (wife's daily driver). The car is obviously burning the oil.

Have any of you encountered this condition? What was the fix if any. My car is still under MB extended warranty so it should be covered. I just wanted to have some knowledge before taking the car in. Thanks in advance for your help.

Given the amount of oil you are using, you should be fouling plugs if the oil is getting into the cylinders. My guess is that it is leaking somewhere, most likely when you drive it since you don't have oil in the garage and given the fact that it doesn't smoke. Pull off the engine cover and look around the valve cover gaskets and then I would start checking around the oil pan gaskets.
