Could a fuse cause this?
Is there any particular place I should check for a loose connection?

thanks

I had an ML w/ an internal fuse in the bose unit. When I took the unit out and took off the aluminum covering, there is a 3A fuse. But my radio wouldn't come on or anything. This doesn't sound like that fuse, but there ARE strange fuse locations. Good luck!

Not sure what this is...I would try posting in the audio forum. If it ends up being the head unit, I have one I can sell you. PM me if interested.

Good luck.

Bose Amplifier

These cars have a multi-channel Bose amplifier - it might be a problem with that unit. The CLK's have 8 speaker systems (two of which are the subwoofers in the rear shelf).

This is most likely housed in a 1-chassis amplifier module - may be mounted in the side walls in the trunk area (behind carpeted side covers) or under the trunk floor cover area.

Probably the thing to do is follow the wiring for the rear shelf subs to see where that leads to - and hopefully find where the amplifier is.

I haven't had that symptom, so I don't have an answer for why yours has this symptom. Bose amp failures have happened in various brands as I recall.

Here's one link I found for a place that does repairs on Bose systems:
