front bumper insert

Hi fellow colleagues i need your help. I have a 2003 clk430 cab. I pulld out of a parking space and heard a scrapping sound. this indicated that the front bumper was over the stop blocks in most parking spaces. while driving i continued to hear this scrapping noise. I pulled over and noticed that there is a piece that snaps in place in the front scoop of the bumper. The piece is ruined and i would like to know were i can find one. I started to pay attention to other KCL in the area and i noticed that a great majority of them are missing this same piece. for example in my place of business there are 5 CLK's now with mine 3 of them are missing the same piece. If any one can help it would be great. Thanks for your help..

This has happened to me oh so many times. I actually was over a parking block so far that I snapped not only parts of the bumper on the front, but on the sides where it bolts onto the car. I'd suggest looking on ebay or going through old posts on here or benzworld.org because I know i've seen several posts on this before. The one thing it taught me is to always back into parking spaces. It's actually even worse with the SL55, that thing is even lower then the CLK...good luck

You must mean that horizontal piece that runs across the opening of the main bumper. Try http://www.jjbumpers.com/orderinquire.htm

From that page, click 'J J Bumpers 2006 Catalog'. The catalog comes up in Excel spreadsheet form. The w208 bumpers start on line 5286. The part I believe you are referring to is called the 'crossmember' ($128) there. Call to make sure it's what you're looking for.

Yeah, he is referring to the small horizontal piece that snaps into place. I know some people have tied them in place so they would not fall off. The front bumper cover on our cars has a tendency to catch on the parking curbs very easily and when backing out of a space, you can easily rip a front bumper loose on the car. Just a heads up, make sure your ladyfriends are aware of this, that is of course if you let them drive your CLK!

That happened to me as well...all new owners beware. I was able to superglue it back and the crack was back enough you couldn't tell. Anyway, when I took it to a place that does all the bodywork for a local Mb dealer they said the insert was only $70. Not sure if it was painted, i would think it is.

Thanks guys you have been helpful... I expected this "crossmember" to be in the $200 range.
