Rear Head Rests Stuck

Hi

I have a CLK 230 Convertible (1998) and have had a couple of problems with the rear headrests. They have been activated and risen to hit the roof (the safety feature), but now they will not go back down, so I need to get the error reset.

This has happened before and I took it to the dealers, they took the car away for five minutes and came back with it all fixed - the guy told me there is a key sequence on the dashboard that you press to reset the error and it works as normal again - but he would not tell me the code and then they charged me!!!

Obviously I would like to be able to fix this myself without taking it to the dealers. Does anyone know the sequence?

Can anyone also let me know how to get the errors etc to appear on the air con screen on the dashboard. I saw a previous thread showing how this was done (something like turn key to position 2 whilst pressing some keys on the dash and the it shows up all the codes on the screen on the air con) but cannot find it again at all!!

Any help or ideas greatly appreciated!

Cheers

Jon

If you have the owners manual, it tell you how to reset it. There is no special trick to it. They were activated because you probably were in an accident or hit a big pot hole. This is a roll over precaution on the cabrios. I don't have the manual with me when I will let you know if you don't have the manual.

Hi Guys

Thanks for the reply

Have tried the head rest button on the dash (which i know works) but it will not lower the head rests into their original position, the motor you can hear working but the head rests stay in the upright safety position (it did this before)

I will look in the manual as you said as well and see if the reset is in there, but i am sure I did that before and could find nothing.

Thanks for your help

Cheers
