You're gonna have to replace it. It's VERY expensive! (driver's side, atleast) Passenger side is like 60 bucks, but drivers side.......(forget about it!) I left it BLACK until I found one on ebay for $50. Stealer quoted something ridiculous like $200.

Yeah. The little rubber seal that surrounds the mirror glass 'seperates' at the seam and I belive there's a fluid in there that begins to leak out. Looks wild and can cause some distortion (mine did at least). The new one that was put on was 'seamless' so it shouldn't happen again. A $300 hit....

Hah, same problem...drivers side. Not bad in the summer but when the defroster kicks on you can barely see a thing. Dealer quoted $320 just for the part.

replacement

I just had a local glass shop get a replacement that they glued right over the existing. It is not dimming but it was only $40 versus the $300+ for the replacement. Perfect fit. You can find them online as well.

mirror

I'm in Bham and the dealer wanted 450.00 for the drivers side mirror. Just like the previous post, I had a glass shop to shape and cut some glass for me and they placed it over the brown mess for me. 35.00 and I can still eat. lol

Hersh: Are the images in the mirror distorted, especially at night? Mine was whack so I HAD to do something. I'm actually suprised it passed inspection like that but maybe because the distort wasn't bad during the day. The night was really scary. I'd be seeing 4 headlights for 1 car *LOL*. Didn't want to but I went ahead and took that hit ($300 but my indy put it on for free) for safety's sake. Passenger side doesn't cost as much. I think the driver's side has some electronics in there and that's why it costs more (is the driver's side mirror heated in any way?).

Yep. That gel/liquid thats in between the pieces of glass/mirror is beginning to seep out. I believe MB shipped 208s with a rubber grommet around the glass/mirror that had a seam. Yet another poor design. The seam pulls apart slightly over time, the gel leaks out (gradually) and you end up with a wild looking side view mirror. Interesting thing is it doesn't happen on the passenger side (that I know of) so the driver's side issues must be related to the 'auto dimming' feature?
To all of you, I highly recommend changing it by any means neccesary if you have this issue. It's a very dangerous situation at night.
