I recently purchased a 2001 CLK55 AMG. Silver with black.
I have been nosing around this site for a bit and figured I would say hello.
I am sure that I will have questions in the future and hope that I can input and help others too.
1. Any aftermarket extended warranties for the AMG out there? I am not having much luck and even searching the forums, still have doubts?
2. I have a small (remote sensor looking) device coming out of my dash that is not hooked up (Wires, but no power). Beltronics is the name. I believe it to be some sort of radar detector set up that is missing the brains?
3. What exactly does the "W" and "S" rocker switch on my shifter do for me? Is it suspension related or a shift firmness selector of some sort?
4. I am missing the grill fascia filler (the piece that fills in the void at the very bottom of the bumper). I need one/ don't know where to get one. Seems that this is a very common problem.
5. (a) Does anyone have a trusted mechanic in the Bay Area in case I would need one for future reference?
(b) On that note: Is there a good place to buy quality mercedes parts if required in the future without having to take a mortgage out on my house?
6. Any get togethers in Northern CA to speak of for MB owners or AMG for that matter?
Sorry for all the questions, but I do appreciate any and all help. New to the MB World, but a very fast learner.
Again, Thanks.
John

Welcome John! I'll try my best to answer some of your questions...
1. You could try the dealer, some dealers sell 3rd party extended warranties.
2. Sorry, no idea what it may be.
3. W is winter mode (transmission starts in 2nd gear) S is summer mode (starts in 1st gear).
4. Alot of ppl. with the AMG kits have the same problem...if you keep an eye out on the forum they pop up every now and then.
5. I normally go to the dealer. Went to Topline (Burlingame) prices were about the same as the dealer. Sorry not much help here.
6. Lately some bay area members has been meeting weekly around the San Jose area (2 hrs away from Vacaville!!!)
Hope this helps

All your questions have been answered about as well as I could have so I'd just like to say WELCOME!!!
This forum is very helpful and it is the reason I decided to keep my lowly 430 ( I WANT A 55 NOW LOL). I had small problems coming up and wanted to sell but then I found out through the forum how easy all of then were to fix.
Enjoy that SWEET 55!!!!

Welcome to tha club!
I also just wanted to add that I believe you're looking for that single horizontal piece that goes across the middle of your opening in your lower bumper.
That piece can be found at jjbumpers (dot...com). It's a horribly designed website but here's what you do. Go to the site. Click the "2006 (?) Catalog" link. This will open an Excel spreadsheet. To make it easier for you, go to line item 5660 "FRONT REINF (crossmember)". I believe that is what you're after. It runs $160. Hope this helps and again, welcome!

Thanks for the welcome.
I did find out more about the winter/ summer switch.
Still workin on the warranty problem.
For the crossmember piece in the grill. I think that I am gonna try to 'customize' this a little. Might try some sort of mesh and then screw it in myself. I think that I can make it look presentable.
And yes I am already enjoying the 55 !! Damn thing definitely gets out of it's own way. Sold a Z-28 that I drove for awhile and am pretty sure that the 55 would take it !!

I bought the car in Vallejo. 46k on the clock. Nah, price don't bother me. I bought it for 27000 out the door. So without taxes and title etc. About 25000 outright. Did you buy yours used or new? Do European cars hit the strip on any special day, or grudge match Wednesdays?
