I have Black Opal on my 2001 ML 320 and it is an awesome color... everyone I've talked to say it is their favorite color. I haven't had any trouble.... do you wax your cars? If so then you won't have trouble with any color

PS the interior is fine as well as long as you clean it every year or two :p

black opal is a beautiful color, and so far, i don't see any dullness, but then again, i've only had the car for a few months

ash & oyster interiors will get dirty easy, no doubt. still better than oyster though, black is the only color that won't show dirt that easy. although, the ash/oyster color does help keep the inside of the cabin a little bit cooler on hot days.

don't worry- you made a great decision on the color combo. besides, its MB paint, it will last forever if taken care of properly

I have 2001 CLK-430 Black Opal/Ash combo. It's an awesome color. I use Zaino Products inside and out. The color and finish looks great.....It's the damn break dust that drives me crazy...................

Ash will get dirty VERY easily, and it will stick out like a sore thumb....

You just gotta clean it every time it gets dirty, or else it just looks horrible...

especially on the doors, where "most" people kick the doors open...

I've got black opal with charcoal interior and I love it. I prefer dark interiors just based on looks and it hides dirt well and is not unbearable on hot days.

As far as the exterior looking dull, some people think it has a gray/greenish hue to it. It's wierd depending on the light there are a lot of components to it but that's one of the reasons I like it. It's personal. Just keep it waxed. I've heard good things about Zaino but I've always used Zymol Concours wax and it looks fantastic.

I'm the same way, had silver for years and opted for a change. Now I'm hooked on dark cars. Just so that you know what you're getting into, I think they require a lot more attention as far as keeping it clean. It's much easier to see light scratches than on the lighter colors. And it didn't take long either despite hand-washing and periodic waxing. It's much less noticable after a good wax but they soon return. I haven't tried the clay-bar thing yet since it looks so time-comsuming but I may break down soon. The upside of the frequent waxing is a beautiful deep luster.

Anyway, you won't be disappointed. In my case, maybe I'm a little too meticulous when it comes to my car's finish but it's the labor of love I guess.
