C350
I've had it
After 8-10 flats (stopped counting) in 3 1/2 years living in the pothole filled, bumpy streets of New York I've had it. My daily driving consists of looking down at the street trying to avoid any potholes and bumps that I have not memorized already. After taking my car in for service and getting a new C320 as a loaner I was very impressed. No more worries about any potholes, the car just felt perfect even on bumps that would make my CLK430 shake and rattle. So what's the solution everyone? Do you think if I put 225/50 in the front and 245/40 would the extra rubber make a difference? Or is it purely shock related? (I don't mind losing a little bit of the sport look by putting thicker tires). So what do you think I should do? (besides celling it and buying a new E class...) Thanx

'01 CLK320
Get a hovercraft.
I haven't had any problems driving in Manhattan with my clk320 - 205/55/16 instead of 225/45/17 that comes with the 430.
Wanna trade wheels? :p

2001 CLK320
It's the tires (aspect ratio)
this is the single reason why I didn't get a CLK430 (got a 320 instead)
the pavement isn't much better in SF than NY, and I knew that I couldn't live with banging and crashing through potholes and having sidewalls damaged. I had a car w/ 60 series tires get a damaged sidewall from a pothole that I didn't see until the last moment.
Going with a slightly narrower tread width & taller sidewall (to maintain the proper overall height for the speedo & ESP) will give you more cushion over bad pavement as you discovered driving the C320.
I don't remember what size the C320 has (17" wheels?), but if it does, you could duplicate that for your CLK...
The shocks & springs on the 320/430 are the same - its just the wheels & tires 16" vs. 17".
