MAF or CPS failing?

My car exhibited symptoms today of a MAF or CPS failing on the way to work. The idle dropped lower than usual when the car was at a stoplight in gear and it died on me once. It immediately restarted and I have no CEL on but I think it may be about to fail due to a rough idle. Going to hit it with CRC MAF cleaner tonight and see if it fixes it. If not, will look into buying a CPS since the CEL never came on...

Used the CRC spray on the sensor and went ahead and bought a crankshaft position sensor since I am driving across the country soon and put them both in and she now purrs at 500 RPM at idel like she should. I believe the MAF was pretty dirty and cleaning it was the fix.

I have read the DIY instructions on MAF cleaning...do you think that you could just spray the sensor w/o removing the entire MAF?

Yeah, you could but the MAF is so easy to remove and you are supposed to disconnect it from the electrical connection prior to cleaning it. Removing it allows you to ensure that you get all the exposed sensor wires cleaned. If you really want to get type A, you can actually remove the wire portion from the MAF housing with a special bit to remove the bolts holding the assembly together. Cleaning the MAF at every air filter change or servicing will help to ensure a long MAF life.
