CLK320
Dash lights - problem

We have a 2000 CLK320 which we purchased new. At night the dash lights came on automatically when the car was started and put in gear. About 2 months ago they stopped coming on but would work if the headlight switch was turned on manually. I assumed it was a light sensor problem. When I took it to the dealer they said it's not possible that the dash lights came on automatically. I know they did. This is not the first time we've had electrical problems. About a year ago the headlights would not go off (until the battery drained). It stumped the dealer who put in a new light switch unit (at a cost of $600+). Does any one have any ideas as to what might be causing the dash light problem? thanks for any suggestions. Dave

Dash light.

I also drive a 00CLK320, my dash light NEVER lit up at night, if the main light switch is not turn on. The feature (dash light ON when the main light switch is NOT on @ night) is new to me. I drove my car in the last 6 years, not seeing the dash light lit on at all, unles I turn the light on. Regards.

2000 CLK430
I think my lights used to turn on by themselves as well but you have to turn your headlamp switch all the way to the left (counterclockwise) instead of the normal way. I might be getting the switches confused with the one on my Navigator but I think the CLK had it as well.

Now I gotta go outside and check
